Dingli roadworks damage rubble wall near protected Medieval chapel

Saturday, 3 April 2021, 14:11 Last update: about 4 years ago

A rubble wall located close to a Medieval chapel was damaged as a result of nearby roadworks, Moviment Graffitti said this morning.

The wall was quickly repaired but the incident showed that the works are endangering the ancient chapel, the group said.

Graffitti said part of the wall came down as a result of vibrations caused by the nearby works.

The group has entered its 13th day of protest against the works being carried out in the locality which, it says, require a planning permit.

The group has said the works endanger the nearby chapel as well as protected indigenous trees.

Infrastructure Malta said last week it has altered its plans after listening to the residents, but the NGO has pressed ahead with its sit-in protest.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the group insisted that IM does not have the necessary permits to carry out the works, which extend into private property. It called on the authority to stop its “abusive and dangerous” behaviour.
