Virtu' Ferries to run fast-ferry service to Gozo from June

Saturday, 10 April 2021, 16:55 Last update: about 4 years ago

Virtu' Ferries have announced that the company will be running a Malta-Gozo fast-ferry service as from June.

In a post on Facebook, the company said that after 30 years of services between Malta and Sicily, it is now planning to introduce a boat service between the two islands.

Details on the schedule will be announced closer to the date.

The trip should last not longer than 45 minutes and will be provided only for passengers, according to Transport Malta regulations.

The company had said in March that it would initially be operating the service with a ferry from its existing fleet, and will later have a boat specifically built for the Mġarr-Valletta service.

The shipping market on this route is open to multiple operators followed three failed attempts.

The first two calls had been cancelled by the Transport Ministry following lengthy legal proceedings, while the third one was cancelled by the the Public Contracts Review Board.
