A young man was rescued by the Civil Protection Department after falling off a cliff at il-Maqluba, the department said.

In a Facebook post accompanied by photos, the department said it was called to assist a youth who fell off a cliff at Maqluba area, limits of Qrendi.

CPD officers from the USAR Section and Ħal Far Fire Station were called to the scene and abseiled down the cliffs to reach the Maltese youth, in an operation that lasted around an hour.

Medical assistance was given on site by MDH personnel and the young man was later admitted to hospital for further treatment.

In a separate statement, the police said that the 15-year-old was grievously injured.

The accident happened at around 4pm.
