An elderly man was seriously after he was hit by a car in Qormi on Wednesday.

The accident took place at around 4:15pm in Triq San Bastjan, the police said.

The victim, a 79-year-old man from Qormi, was hit by a Kia Avella driven by a 31-year-old man who also lives in the same locality.

The elderly man was assisted by a medical team and was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo is leading an inquiry.

The police are also investigating.
