Anti-vaccine graffitti defaces public gardens in Sliema

Wednesday, 21 April 2021, 14:22 Last update: about 4 years ago

In recent days, graffiti vandals have targeted the Curia offices in Floriana as well Independence garden in Sliema, defacing premises by spray painting anti-vaccine messages on the walls.

The spray painted on the recently-restored façade of the Curia offices building read as “home killers”, claiming that “vaccines is 4 depopulation.”

Photos posed on social media have also shown damage caused to a public garden in Sliema. In this case, not only graffiti was painted on walls with messages against Deputy Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne as well as the Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci, who are at the forefront of the vaccination program in Malta, but also a number of lanters were damaged.

The spray painted on the walls in Sliema read a similar message as the one painted on the Curia building; “Vaccines is 4 depopulation”, but there were two other anti-vaccine messsages including “vaccines kill” and  “Fearne + Gauci = Genociders with Vaccines”.

It was reported that workers on Tuesday were requested to remove the graffiti painted over the Curia façade right away. The solvent used to remove the paint caused no damage to the stone surface.

The Sliema Local Council has deplored the vandal act that took place beneath the Independence Gardens yesterday evening. The Council has already informed the police to investigate this “cowardly act of vandalism.”
