Bernard Grech gets Covid-19 jab, encourages public to get vaccinated

Sunday, 2 May 2021, 13:11 Last update: about 4 years ago

PN leader Bernard Grech became the latest politician to get the Covid-19 jab, and he used the occasion to renew the widespread appeal to the public to get vaccinated against the virus.

Grech posted on Facebook showing how he was vaccinated at the Mosta health centre on Sunday.

“Today it was my turn to get the Covid-19 vaccine. I encourage those who can take it to get vaccinated when it is their turn. Like that, together we can continue fighting this pandemic”, he said.

Malta’s vaccination drive has continued at break neck speed, opening to those over the age of 40 last week, and opening for those over the age of 30 as of next Tuesday.

42% of those in their 40s have already received the first dose of the vaccine, even if vaccination for this age cohort was opened a week ago. Over two thirds of those in their 50s have received the first dose as well.

Prime Minister Robert Abela and his wife Lydia Abela applied for the vaccine by SMS a week ago.

339,727 doses of the vaccine had been administered up until Saturday – while the total number of people who have received both doses of the vaccine now stands at 108,216.
