Gozitan property magnate Joseph Portelli was reportedly questioned by police over possible connections to former police superintendent Raymond Aquilina.

Aquilina was arrested on Thursday in connection with information leaks on impending money laundering raids on Daphne Caruana Galizia murder middleman Melvin Theuma.

Police are believed to have phone intercepts and surveillance which tie Aquilina to the leaks in hand as evidence.

A report in The Shift News said on Sunday that Portelli had been interrogated by members of the police’s financial crimes department over possible links with Aquilina.

The reports stated that police were investigating some property deals between Portelli and Aquilina.

Aquilina is on police bail and is likely to face criminal charges in the coming days in relation to the alleged leaks to the people who allegedly murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The reports said that Portelli’s interrogation is not connected to the Caruana Galizia case.
