A total of 1,058 people were fined in connection with breaches of Covid-19 regulations in the past week, authorities said on Monday.
The bulk of those fines – 799 of them – were related to people being caught not wearing their mask outdoors. As things stand, it remains mandatory for one to wear their masks at all times outdoors.
160 people meanwhile were fined because they were in groups higher than the allowed amount in public. At the moment, groups of four people – unless they all come from the same household – can gather outside.
83 people were fined for breaching limits related to gatherings inside private households – this limit also currently stands at a maximum of four different households under one roof.
8 establishments were fined for being open when they shouldn’t have been, while 7 people were fined for breaking their mandatory quarantine period. Both these offences carry a hefty €3,000 penalty.
“The message is very clear: while we relax the measures and attack with the vaccine, enforcement remains strong”, the authorities said on Facebook.
