The governemnt is still waiting for a reply from the family of Lassana Cisse regarding his repatriation, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said Wednesday.

Cisse was killed in an apparent racism-motivated shooting in Hal Far on 6 April 2019. Two soldiers stand charged with his murder.

Replying to a Parliamentary Question by PN MP Mario Galea, Camilleri said the government had already told the victim’s family that it would cover the costs required to fly the body back to the Ivory Coast. It will also cover the costs of the burial, permits, morgue fees and flights and accommodation for the family when they travel to Malta to pick up the body.

Camilleri said that despite several emails having been sent, the family is yet to reply. There have been no recent requirements apart from the fact that the government has once again contacted the family.
