The Ministry for Home Affairs, National Protection and Law Enforcement has invested in a new vehicle fleet to strengthen civil protection across Malta and Gozo.

In a press release published on Friday by the Ministry, Minister for Home Affairs Byron Camilleri announced an investment of more than 1.5 million euros in the fleet to increase the safety of citizens and the security of the country.

The fleet, consisting of a number of emergency fire trucks, has been built to fit into tights spaces, including narrow roads and alleys that are characteristic of Maltese and Gozitan villages and cities.

In this way, should an accident occur in localities with limited access, the fleet will be “prepared to face every day realities”, the press release reads.

The investment will also enable civil protection workers to work with the best appliances, while ensuring that the country is protected by state of the art technology.

“This investment is the result of the government’s clear plan to think from ahead and prepare for any eventuality”, Camilleri said on the matter.

General Director of Civil Protection Emanuel Psaila said that these ventures to invest in civil protection are “the first of its kind in Europe” and because of this “they will be making a big different to the lives of people”.
