Malta’s Eurovision star Destiny has said that she feels confident in her costume, blasting those who took to social media to criticise her wardrobe choice after the first rehearsal in Rotterdam on Sunday.
The hot-pink outfit which Destiny sported in her first dress rehearsal for the competition in the Netherlands attracted love and hate in equal measure, with some saying that it represented the message that both Destiny and the song wanted to portray, and others saying that it looked cheap.
The more shameful reactions saw others pose criticism which was more centred on fat-shaming the singer rather than criticising her dress sense.
However, Destiny brushed off the criticism in a press conference after her first dress rehearsal.
“I feel confident in it and that’s what matters. I look beautiful. I’m very happy with my look. I chose it because I feel confident in it, I can move, I can shake,” she said.
After the rehearsal, Malta dropped to second favourite in the odds on who will win the competition, although some bookmakers still list Malta as their favourite. France and Switzerland are seen as the closest contenders along with Malta to win the whole competition.
Destiny will sing in the first semi-final on Tuesday 18 May, and if she finishes in the Top 10 there – which, according to the bookies, seems very likely to happen – then she will sing again in the Grand Final on Saturday 22 May.
