PL to pronounce itself on Farrugia abortion bill after Parliamentary Group debate

Thursday, 13 May 2021, 15:04 Last update: about 4 years ago

The Labour Party will pronounce itself on Marlene Farrugia’s Bill on the decriminalisation of abortion after it holds a discussion within its Parliamentary Group.

Farrugia presented the Private Member’s Bill in Parliament on Wednesday evening.

Its future is unclear seeing that both major political parties have said they are against abortion and have no electoral mandate to introduce it.

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said on Wednesday that the PN believes in the concept of life since inception and can never back the decriminalisation of abortion.

Prime Minister Robert Abela is yet to react on the matter. He did not refer to the subject when speaking on One Radio on Thursday morning.

The Malta Independent understands that the Labour Party will be pronouncing itself on the issue in the coming days after holding a discussion within its Parliamentary Group.
