Parliament Speaker Angel Farrugia, having witnessed the worsening of the situation on the ground, has called for the immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Israel right now finds itself in conflict with Palestinians, with many casualties being recorded during the past few days, including children. On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address that Israel would continue to fight the Palestinians.

Farrugia recalled his visit to both Israel and Palestine in March and April 2016 and expressed his solidarity with the Maltese ambassadors in Ramallah and Tel Aviv as well as with the Maltese community living in the area, who is experiencing such a tragic situation.

In a statement, he urged both sides to return to the table for discussion in the hope of finding a two-state solution.

Farrugia also urged the international parliamentary community, including the European Parliament, to do what they can to help in the search for a peaceful solution.
