Prime Minister Robert Abela has promised to answer questions relating to Carmelo Abela at a press call later today.
Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister Carmelo Abela was called in for police questioning over allegations made by Alfred Degiorgio, one of the suspects in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Abela confirmed this in a Facebook post. He said that, after he had filed legal procedings against PN MP Jason Azzopardi and after he voluntarily released a police statement earlier this week, Degiorgio had named him with police in connection with the botched 2010 HSBC heist.
Abela said he answered all questions because he has "nothing to hide" and wanted the whole truth to come out.
The minister worked as a bank manager at HSBC before entering politics. He had already testified about the case in court in 2011.
Prime Minister Robert Abela made his promise while speaking to a Times of Malta journalist as he was rushing in to Castille for a meeting with the President of the EU Council about other matters.
