72-year-old Maltese singer Jon Lukas 'Woodenman' has passed away.
Jon Lukas, whose real name is Frank Lukas, is a well known musician who was born in 1948.
His singing career launched in 1966, when he was a frontman for the group The Fenders. In 1970, he recorded the hit 'Can't Afford to Lose', composed by Gary Benson, and was well received internationally.
In the 1990s his brother succumbed to AIDS, and Jon Lukas launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness, writing a song to promote the cause.
In 1993 he, accompanied by Marita, placed second in the Malta Song Festival with the first song he sang in the Maltese language, 'Żommni u Għannaqni'.
He then formed the band "Woodenman" In 1998, The band recorded an album that topped the 'peoplesound' charts in August 1992.
