A woman was grievously hurt on Sunday evening in a traffic accident in Sliema, the police said.

The accident took place in Tower Road at 8.30pm.

It involved a Volkswagen Bora, driven by a 45-year-old Italian man who resides in Gzira, and a Toyota Avensis driven by a 62-year-old man of Birkirkara.

The woman, who was hurt, aged 53 of Birkirkara, was riding in the Toyota.

She was taken to Mater Dei Hospital.
