Artists’ demonstration temporarily suspended as talks with government continue

A demonstration by artists that was planned for Thursday evening has been suspended, but the event could be back on if no agreement is reached with the authorities.

The Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) had planned to hold the 'Daqshekk siekta' (silent no more) demonstration at St George’s Square on Thursday.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, it said that it was temporarily suspending the event “as we continue with our ongoing and lengthy discussions with the Authorities to find the best possible solutions to make events safe as well as sustainable.”

If our discussions fail to address our concerns and if we still feel our industry is being discriminated against and treated unjustly, we will announce another date for a demonstration in the coming days,” it said.

MEIA thanked all those who are supporting its cause and who had confirmed their participation for the demonstration.

MEIA said it remains committed to ensure that our sectors open responsibly, sustainably and controlled for all.
