Pet groomers are set to be professionally regulated at law in light of the recent incident involving a healthy family pet which died suddently following a regular grooming session.
Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Animal Rghts Minister Anton Refalo said that a draft bill was prepared by the Veterinary Surgeons Council to regulate grooming services.
“Consultation on the proposed regulations was underway with different stakeholders,” Refalo said.
Refalo was replying to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Mario Galea.
Animal Welfare Commissioner Alison Bezzina had finalised and submitted a report calling on the respective authorities to regulate pet groomers, sitters and trainers by enacting them into law.
Refalo did not give a specific timeline for enacting the new rules.
