Covid-19: 171 new cases found as elderly woman passes away while positive

171 cases of Covid-19 were found overnight and an elderly woman died in hospital while positive for the virus, the health authorities said.

The woman who died was 73 years old.

This was the first Covid death in over a month, with the last one reported on 17 June.

The death toll now stands at 421.

There were 92 recoveries. Total recoveries so far stand at 30,448.

Nineteen patients are being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with one patient at the Intensive Therapy Unit.  

The number of active cases now stands at 2,373, but this includes 299 cases who have been repatriated.

The total number of cases has now risen to 33,541. The total number of recoveries is 30,448.

The health authorities said 3,926 were performed on Friday. The total number of swab tests performed so far has reached 1,065,162.

Until Friday, 742,361 doses of the vaccine had been administered, of which 392,444 were a first dose. 368,587 people are now fully vaccinated.
