Man charged with injuring Somali, throwing him into sea

A man from Xewkija was charged this afternoon with injuring a Somali by throwing him into the sea at Mgarr.

The incident took place on 18 July at 1am in Martino Garces Street, Ghajnsielem, which is the name of the road overlooking the Mgarr Harbour.

The man, aged 21, was charged before Magistrate Simone Grech.

He was also accused of breaching public peace.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.

Inspector Josef Gauci prosecuted.

The incident was first reported on a social media post, where an onlooker claimed to witness the fight break out near a bar in Mgarr, Gozo, which culminated in a group of around 15 people allegedly attacking the Somali.
