‘Resign, apologise and kick Muscat out’ – Protest held in Valletta after Daphne inquiry report

Thursday, 29 July 2021, 16:09 Last update: about 4 years ago

A protest is being held in Valletta this evening, after the publication of the inquiry into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The inquiry board found that the state is responsible for the murder after failing to recognise the real risks to the journalist’s life, the report reads, and failed to take the reasonable steps to avoid these risks.

The protest, organised by Repubblika, #occupyjustice and manueldelia.com is being held in front of the Office of the Prime Minister.

The activists said the government, ministers, officials and persons of trust mentioned in the inquiry have a respoinsibility to shoulder.

The State should formally apologise to the family of the slain journalist.

The Cabinet should resign and be replaced by a government that excludes anyone found to be responsible by the inquiry board.

The Labour Party should not allow any of these individuals to stand as candidates in any elections.

The PL should also kick iout Joseph Muscat, they said.

The institutions should immediately act on prosecutions that should have been carried out long ago.

There should be an inter-institutional committee, with the participation of civil society, to discuss the report in detail and see how the inquiry recommendations are to be implemented. Such reforms should be carried out before the next general election.
