78 new Covid-19 cases reported as elderly woman passes away

78 new cases of Covid-19 were reported by health authorities on Thursday, as an elderly woman became the 424th person to die in Malta while positive for the virus.

204 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, meaning that the number of active cases currently stands at 1,206.

An 88-year-old woman passed away in the last 24 hours while Covid-19 positive – news announced by Health Minister Chris Fearne in a press conference earlier on Thursday.


A total of 35 Covid positive patients are currently receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital – with four of those receiving treatment in ITU.

3,260 swab tests were carried out on Wednesday, taking the total number of swab tests so far up to 1,106,569.

767,831 doses of the vaccine have been administered thus far, with 402,373 of those being first doses.

389,610 people are currently fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 34,668 cases of the virus so far. 32,642 of those have recovered, while 424 have died.
