Two men were remanded in custody on Sunday after they were caught with what was allegedly cocaine on Saturday.
The duo, a 41-year-old and a 58-year-old who both live in Mellieha, were arrested in Valletta after surveillance by the police’s anti-drugs squad.
They were arrested after the police received a tip-off about the possibility of an ongoing drug trafficking operation.
Police said that they were caught with a substantial amount of cocaine, while a further half a kilo of the drug was found at their residences – with the street value of the drug being calculated at €27,000.
A further €19,000 in cash was also found at the men’s residences when searches were carried out.
The duo were arraigned before duty magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo on Sunday morning, where they pleaded not guilty to charges of drug trafficking and cocaine possession.
Both men were remanded in custody.
The prosecution was led by Inspector Justine Grech.
Duty Magistrate Ian Farrugia has opened a magisterial inquiry.
