43 new Covid-19 cases found as another patient dies

43 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported by health authorities, along with the death of an elderly woman who was positive for the virus.

Health authorities said in their daily update that an 86-year-old woman had passed away while positive for Covid-19 – meaning that she has become the 431st person to succumb to the virus in Malta.

80 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, meaning that the number of active cases has now dropped to 609.

A total of 43 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital – an increase of five since Sunday’s update. 

Five out of those patients are currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s ITU.

2,822 swab tests were done on Sunday, taking the total so far up to 1,143,094.

Meanwhile 784,729 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far, with 407,985 of those being a first dose.

404,760 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 35,380 cases of the virus so far. 33,944 of those have recovered, while 431 have died.
