Man remanded in custody after police find €60,000 worth of drugs

A 39-year-old man, residing in Marsa, was arrested in connection with cocaine trafficking as well as for being in possession of around a kilo of cocaine.

After investigations by the Anti-Drug Squad Police on the man’s movements, at around 11:30am, the police stopped his vehicle in Triq il-Qaliet, Wied il-Għajn.

At that moment, the alleged suspect fled the scene driving at a high speed and crashed into a police vehicle. The police drove after him, surrounded him further down the same street and arrested him.

A search was carried out in the vehicle and a package containing about a kilo of substance, which is suspected to be cocaine, was found.

The police also searched the man’s residence in Marsa where a firearm was found.

The drugs found had a street value of around €60,000.

The man is being remanded in custody while investigations are still going on. 

Duty Magistrate Doreen Clarke has been appointed a magisterial inquiry.
