St Vincent De Paul’s first ever digital imaging unit was inaugurated on Wednesday, with an investment of more than half a million euro.

The modern equipment will not only be used by residents but by other elderly persons too.

Speaking at the inauguration, the minister for the elderly, Michael Farrugia said this is another step towards making SVPR a centre of excellence in the care for the elderly.

He also said that, in the coming weeks, the facility will also be acquiring a CT scanner. Farrugia said the dependency of elderly people on health services is on the increase, so investment in this field is always beneficial.

The new radiology unit will be crucial to promote preventive medicine, facilitata early diagnosis and provide more services to residents and other members of the public, he said.
