A total of 19 countries have been moved from Malta’s dark red travel list to its red list which allows quarantine-free travel for those who are in possession of a recognised vaccine certificate.
The changes were announced in a legal notice on Monday which will then come into force on Thursday.
According to the legal notice, the countries which are now on Malta’s red list are: Bahrain, Gabon, Kuwait, Maldives, Bermuda, Rwanda, Russia, Mongolia, Cape Verde, Namibia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Myanmar, Malaysia, Tunisia, Morocco, Iraq, South Africa, Timor and India.
People coming to the country from these countries will not need to quarantine as long as they are in possession of a recognised vaccine certificate.
Malta currently recognises the certificates of the EU, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Canada, Australia, Serbia, Turkey, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, Qatar, Albania, Egypt, and Lebanon.
Those who enter the country without a recognised vaccine certificates will still have to quarantine for 14-days upon arrival.
The changes had been hinted by Health Minister Chris Fearne last week, who said that the focus of the travel restrictions will now move from trying to stop the Delta variant (which originated in India) from entering the country, to trying to stop the new Mu variant (which is based in South America) from entering.
