New appointments have been made at the helm of Enemalta, with Jonathan Cardona taking over as CEO and Jonathan Scerri being appointed chairman.

The company confirmed the appointments in a statement, saying that they had come into effect as from Monday 11 October.

“I want to convey my appreciation for the trust being shown in me for this position. Together with the company board, the management, workers and shareholders, I look forward to continue building on the good work carried out throughout the years, and strengthen such a crucial corporation for the Maltese economy,” Cardona said in his initial comments following his appointment.

Cardona was previously the head of Kommunita Malta – the agency in charge of citizenship-matters – which was previously known as the Individual Investor Programme Agency, which handled the controversial passport-selling scheme.

Ing. Jonathan Scerri meanwhile has been appointed as chairperson of the Board of Directors.

“I am honoured and at the same time eager to lead Enemalta’s board. The company feels like a second home, having worked here for a very long stretch in my career. There is a lot of work to be done and several targets to be met. I am convinced that the employees will be standing with us, giving their utmost to see the corporation moving forward,” Scerri said.

An electrical engineer by profession, Scerri was executive director at Enemalta between 2014 and 2017.

The company thanked Ing Jason Vella and Kevin Chircop, who served as CEO and chairperson respectively, for their work in the past years, and wished Cardona and Scerri every success in their new roles.
