The Air Malta flight transporting 135,690 AstraZeneca vaccines to Kigali, Rwanda's capital, has arrived, Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo said on Facebook.

In a statement on Thursday, the airline had said that the charter flight was the longest non-stop flight taken by an Air Malta aircraft.

The seven-hour long direct flight, covering 2,426 nautical miles, left Malta at 2am on Friday morning and landed at Kigali at 9am.

Such long-distance non-stop flights can now be operated with the airline's new A320neo aircraft that offer additional range, 20% lower fuel costs, are more environmentally friendly and have a 50% less noise footprint then the older Airbus A320ceo models."
