An abandoned space in Ħal Farruġ with an area of around 2,000m2 will be regenerated into an open space for the residents to enjoy, the government said today.
Through an agreement with the Luqa Local Council, Parks Malta will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of this picnic area. In addition, the surrounding area will be equipped with security cameras and, to ensure further security, a fence will be built around it.
This project in the community of Luqa was announced by Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli. The site will be equipped with waste separation containers and a small number of picnic benches. This project will further encourage families to have picnics in a natural environment.
This picnic area will also be equipped with an irrigation system from a reservoir, as well as tree planting. Furthermore, the lighting which will be installed uses an innovative system controlled according to the time of day and the need. Such an investment will ensure efficiency and service improvement.
“Over the last few months, we have announced several open space projects. This is being done through collaboration with various local councils and Parks Malta, where we are constantly offering more open spaces for the enjoyment of the residents. In every project, we always keep in mind the concept of sustainability, where maintenance is given priority. I look forward to more projects such as this one for the public to enjoy in their locality,” said Minister Dalli.
“This project is yet another example of the continuous work that Parks Malta is carrying out. We look forward to more collaborations with local councils to continue regenerating more open spaces close to the residents,” remarked Director General of Parks Malta Adrian Attard.
Present for the project’s launch were the Director General of Parks Malta and representatives from the Luqa Local Council.
The works on this regeneration garden will be finalised in the coming months.
