The man who heroically dove into rough seas in Sliema to save two people in distress will be recognised for his bravery, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Thursday.
Sean Meli on Wednesday night jumped into the sea and saved a Chinese man and woman who were dragged into the sea near the Chalet area in Sliema.
Both were dragged out of the sea at around 7pm and taken to hospital for care.
Taking to social media, Prime Minister Robert Abela praised Meli for his “heroic act” and said that recognition should be given for his bravery.
“I will see to it that this happens at the opportune moment,” Abela said.
He said that he has no doubt that there is nothing more satisfying than saving someone’s life, but that society has to recognise people like Meli.
