PN first takes credit for cannabis bill, then says it’s against it – PL

Saturday, 13 November 2021, 07:20 Last update: about 3 years ago

The Nationalist Party first says the cannabis bill as presented was copied from its own proposals, and now it says it is very much against it, the Labour Party said in a statement.

This confusion is symptomatic of a party in crisis without a sense of leadership, the PL said.

On Friday, the PN said the government’s proposed legalisation of cannabis would normalise and increase drug abuse in Malta.

A month ago, the PL said, PN leader Bernard Grech said that the law presented by the government was based on what he had said earlier. And now the PN wants to tear the legislation down.

The debate on the bill will take place in Parliament, where the need for this reform will be explained, the PL said.

“What is sure is that we had another confirmation of an Opposition Leader who has no sense of direction and leadership,” the PL said.
