PL takes aim at Bernard Grech over Covid ‘contradictions’

Thursday, 13 January 2022, 10:04 Last update: about 3 years ago

Over the period of a few days, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech turned his own version over the advice given by the health authorities regarding Covid-19 upside down, the Labour Party said.

"On 8 January he said that he was in favour of the new regulations, yet he has now changed his tune and said they should be withdrawn."

"This proves that Grech is playing a partisan game with the Covid-19 issue. His credibility this time has plummeted to the bottom."

When he was asked clearly if he agrees with the new vaccine regulations coming into force on 17 January, "he said yes, we will continue endorsing the official decision," the PL said.

"But, soon after he said that they need to be withdrawn. Grech changed his statement in a game of populism instead of, at this moment, focusing on urging everyone to take the booster dose as doctors and prominent professionals in the country are doing."

The PL urged the government and health authorities to continue in their dialogue with the social partners and, where needed, for genuine questions to be addressed. "At the same time they need to continue with the vaccination campaign with the aim of continuing to recuperate from the pandemic effects. The more people are vaccinated, the more we attack the virus and reduce restrictions."
