A 71-year-old man died on Thursday afternoon after he was hit by a truck in Birzebbugia.

The accident took place in Triq Wied il-Qoton at around 1pm, the police said.

The man, who is from Mgarr, was helping a colleague manoeuvre the truck in a narrow country road when he was hit by the vehicle.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead on site.

The truck driver, a 35-year-old man from Mosta, was unhurt.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke has launched an inquiry. Police investigations are also ongoing.
