The body of Lassana Cisse will finally be returning home, to the Ivory Coast, for burial.
Cissa was 42 when he was murdered in cold blood as he walked home on 6 April 2019. Two soldiers, Francesco Fenech and Lorin Scicluna, stand charged with his murder. Both deny the charges and both are currently out on bail.
The murder is thought to have been racially motivated.
Times of Malta quoted government sources saying that Cisse’s body will be flown out of Malta in the coming days.
His body was actually released for burial nine months after his murder, but transferring his body to the Ivory Coast became impossible owing to travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A memorial event dedicated to Cisse is also set to be held in the coming days.
