Man caught with stolen items tried to resist arrest

A man injured police constables while he was being arrested, a police statement read.

The police said that at 10.45pm Sunday night, the Hamrun police depot was informed about a suspicious man walking around parked vehicles and trying to break in.

The police went on site but did not find the suspect. The police kept searching and spotted the man on Mile End road, the statement read. When police approached him, he ran. Police officers gave chase until they arrested him. During the arrest, the police said, the man did not cooperate and was even violent, so much so that he caused some slight injuries to the constables. The police searched the man and found three mobile phones, a watch and a host holder, among other stolen items.

The man, who was later identified as being 22-years-old from Chad, was taken to the Hamrun police depot and then escorted to the lockup at the police HQ in Floriana.
