Two men were arrested after being caught hiding in a toilet and a soffit in a botched burglary this morning, the police said.

The two men, aged 37 and 25, both of Birkirkara, were caught after they had broken into an establishment in Valley Road, Birkirkara, at around 8.45am.

Upon arriving on site after information received, police officers noticed that the front glass door of the outlet had been broken. The officers entered the building and conducted a search, floor by floor.

On the third floor, the officers heard noises coming from a toilet. One of the men had locked himself in and did not want to come out, the police said.

The officers broke down the door and the man was arrested, at around 10am.

Since, after reviewing security cameras, it was suspected that the man was not acting alone, the search continued and, at around 2pm, with the help of police dog Thor, the second man was located in the soffit.

He was also arrested.

The two were taken to the police lock-up for further questioning.
