Four arrested by police in Marsa drug raid

The Police arrested four people, on Thursday evening, after they raided two warehouses in Triq il-Jerrejja and Triq is-Serkin in Marsa, in connection to drug trafficking.

On the scene, a large number of drugs were found, which were allegedly ready to be trafficked.

This took place as a joint operation between several sections of the Police that started shortly after 11:30 pm and continues until about 4:00 am.

The Police surrounded the premises and entered after several days of investigating and observing the premises.

In the first warehouse, there were two men, a Maltese and a Nigerian whom both tried to escape, with one of them jumping from a height of about one and a half storeys. Both were eventually arrested.

During a search carried out in this warehouse, the Police found 230 sachets of cocaine, 145 sachets of heroin, and 32 sachets of cannabis, all ready to be sold in small bags. The Police also found around €2,000 worth of cash.

In the other warehouse, the police arrested two men from Ghana.

In this warehouse, around half a kilo of cannabis was found with many sachets of cannabis which were ready to be sold. In this warehouse as well, €2,000 worth of cash was found.

From both warehouses, several mobile phones, CCTV camera equipment and other items in connection with drug trafficking were recovered.

The four people who have been arrested are being held in the Police lock-up in Floriana.

After being notified about the case, the Police Magistrate Dr Caroline Farrugia Frendo LL.D is to conduct an inquiry.

The operation continued for multiple Police units as they conducted inspections in places linked to the investigation. From the inspections, they discovered 49 people who were living in Malta illegally.

Following this, the Police revealed that the process has begun to remove these people from Malta.

During this operation, two policemen had to be taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment They were released from the hospital on Friday morning with minor injuries.
