Friday, 30 September 2022, 10:25 Last update: about 3 years ago

Alleged drug kingpin Jordan Azzopardi has been released on bail in connection with an incident that happened in July when he tried to evade a police road block.

Azzopardi had already been on bail at the time over a separate case from 2019 when police discovered what was described as a drugs factory at a farmhouse in Wardija.

In the incident earlier this summer, Azzopardi was arrested after avoiding a police road block by driving dangerously and hitting cars before then being stopped.

Azzopardi was also observed during the chase throwing a packet of cocaine out of his car and into the valley below the road.

In his defence, Azzopardi claimed that he didn’t realise that the vehicles which were giving chase were police vehicles.  He had said that he thought that the vehicles belonged to people who were out to get him.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras granted bail against a deposit of €8,500 and a personal guarantee of €12,500. Azzopardi has to also sign at a police station and cannot exit his house at night.
