Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia has said that in a bid to reduce the number of accidents on Maltese roads, the Council for Road Safety will be investigating certain accident hot spots.
Answering a parliamentary question made by PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami, Farrugia said that as part of the national strategy for road safety, the Council has been asked to investigate areas which could pose a higher risk for an accident, and how to reduce such risk.
Farrugia said that while there are magisterial inquiries and bodies investigating an area following an accident, the council will be promoting for prevention of such accidents.
He said that the bend of a road or the architectural design of buildings could be investigated. Farrugia said that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure Maltese roads are safer.
Farrugia also spoke about the €35 million investment plan which includes additional alternative routes, which was announced last October. He said that investments will be made on additional routes on land and sea, and it will start being implemented next March.
