Europe Day was celebrated in front of parliament on Tuesday with the aim of promoting a number of services Malta benefits from being in the European Union (EU).
The activity promoted the benefits, opportunities and rights that Malta has from being a member of the EU.
The activity mentioned the package of €2.2 billion of EU funds for the period of 2021-2027 and it explained how these funds are being spent and how they play on being spent in Malta’s different sectors.
Prior to the start of the activity, Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett said: “During this activity, we are only seeing a small portion of the opportunities and benefits that the membership of our country in the EU brings. With these opportunities, it is also good to understand our obligations as citizens and as a nation. As we explained at the launch of the new package of European funds, we want more than ever, together with the government, the people to directly shape our vision for Malta.”
CEO of the European Services Agency in Malta Denise Fiorentino said that the Agency serves as an important tool for Malta to take the best opportunities and benefits of being in the EU.
“Our mission is to make it easier for anyone who wants to apply for European funds to finance projects and for those who would like assistance during the implementation of the projects,” Fiorentino said.
During the activity, there were a number of students from the Malta Visual and Performative Arts School staged a performance and a quiz for secondary school students was also held.
