Higher than average prices due to shortcomings of Robert Abela’s government - Grech

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said that the prices in the country remain higher than the average of Eurozone countries, despite Eurostat statistics showing a decrease in the inflation rate during the month of June, and this is due to shortcomings by Prime Minister Robert Abela's government.

In a post on social media, after Eurostat statistics revealed that the cost of living in Malta remains significantly higher than the average of the Eurozone countries, Grech said that this is the reality faced by the Maltese and Gozitan people each month, and that the public deserves better.

He said that this burden falls heavily on the public, particularly evident in the prices of essential food products.

Grech pointed out that although Eurostat's statistics show a decrease in the inflation rate during the month of June, the prices in the country still remain higher than the average of the Eurozone countries.

He highlighted the need to change the country's economic model and reiterated the proposals put forth by the Nationalist Party in this regard.

The proposals include strengthening the sectors that flourished under the PN government's administration and establishing a new economic model with new sectors that generate quality employment and better wages for our workers.

The PN also proposed to ensure that the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) is no longer taxed.

It proposed that government should provide fiscal incentives to fight the rising cost of living, as well as a national fund with an annual budget to support industries involved in imports and exports to mitigate the impact of the high cost of living.

The PN also proposed introducing more incentives for non-profitable economic activities.
