A man was critically injured after he fell while using an escalator and hit his head, the police said Saturday.

The accident took place in an establishment in Victoria on Saturday at 10.45am.

The police said that a woman, aged 72, lost her balance while on an escalator, fell back on the man, aged 77, who in turn fell and hit his head.

The man suffered critical injuries while the woman was slightly hurt.

He was taken to Gozo Hospital for treatment.

Both the man and woman are from Victoria.

Magistrate Simone Grech is leading an inquiry.
