A 78-year-old man from Mgarr was taken to Mater Dei Hospital after being involved in a traffic accident at Triq Ghajn Tuffieha in Mgarr.

The accident happened at around noon on Friday, when the elderly man was hit by a Kawasaki motorcycle, which was being driven by a 33-year-old man from Mellieha.

The elderly man was treated by a medical team on site, and was taken to hospital via ambulance. He was later certified as having suffered from serious injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle went for treatment at the Health Centre, and was certified as having suffered light injuries.

Duty Magistrate Dr Joseph Gatt LL.D was informed of the case, and is leading an inquiry, while police investigations continue.
