Inspections tied to irregular migration by the police and the Detention Services led to 36 people being found to be living in the country irregularly, the police said.

35 were men from Syria and one person was from Gambia. The inspections were focused in Hamrun, Santa Venera and Msida, and are part of a number of inspections aimed to ensure that people living in the country have valid documentation and permits, the police said.

"They are being kept in a detention centre until they are returned to the countries they came from."
