‘There were no changes to the circumstances’ – Abela on demand for Rosianne Cutajar’s apology

Prime Minister Robert Abela said that there has been 'no changes' to the circumstances since he last demanded an apology from independent MP Rosianne Cutajar to consider her re-entry into the Labour Party.

Speaking to The Malta Independent on Monday, Abela was asked if Cutajar had apologised after his demand that she needed to do so around a month ago. He was also asked how long he was willing to wait for this apology.

"There were no changes to the circumstances since I last spoke on it," Abela said.

Cutajar was forced to resign from the parliamentary group in April 2023 after mounting criticism over leaked WhatsApp chats between her and businessman Yorgen Fenech.

She has also been criticised over a National Audit Office report which declared that the contract for a paid consultancy job she took with the Institute for Tourism Studies was "irregular" and "fraudulent."

Abela had first considered her possible return in January when he said that Cutajar had paid a high enough political price, and that it was time for her position to be reconsidered.

He then publicly demanded an apology from Cutajar to be given a second chance.

Cutajar had said that she will "continue to observe" when asked about the apology outside Parliament last March.
