The Nationalist Party has said that Prime Minister Robert Abela “seems to have learned nothing from the clear message sent by the electorate this past Saturday” after blaming the Labour Party’s great majority losses on government workers.
The Nationalist Party, through a statement signed by Claudette Buttigieg, Ivan Castillo, and Solidarjetà Ħaddiema Partit Nazzjonalista (SĦPN), condemned the Prime Minister’s “threats” against civil servants. The Opposition party encouraged these people to “continue following what is right.”
“They are the guardians of true justice and only they can stop the abuse being carried out by Robert Abela and his friends,” the PN stated.
PN also issued that it shall be a shoulder for workers, that it will see that no worker is intimidated through bullying, and that it will ensure that all employees are allowed to do their jobs diligently and without any forms of intimidation.
The party statement concluded by pledging to see that “civil servants are treated with dignity, while all workers are given what they deserve.”
On Monday evening of 11 June 2024, the Prime Minister warned that people within government structures should not expect “a cushy job” and questioned whether all government workers are showing the same level of commitment.
“We are either there to be of service for the people, or we are there to serve the people when it comes to legitimate needs,” Abela had stated, “I have heard too many episodes of people who when it comes to what is truly legitimate, where the state by right must adhere to what is being requested, would say they weren't contacted back. We are there to serve people.”
