Professor Odette Vassallo is being appointed as the Chairperson of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the government has said.

"Professor Vassallo has extensive experience in the education sector and holds a degree in English from the University of Malta. She obtained her Master's and Doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Nottingham, England, and she is the Chairperson of the MATSEC Board."

She will be taking over from Mr. Alfred Camilleri, who expressed the desire not to continue in the role.

The Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, praised the significant contribution made by Mr. Camilleri to the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and emphasized that Camilleri has been, is, and will remain a sincere and loyal friend to the artistic and cultural sector. Minister Bonnici said that during Camilleri's tenure as Chairperson of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, he implemented important changes that will serve as a foundation for future work.

Minister Bonnici thanked Professor Vassallo for accepting to serve the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in the role of Chairperson and stated that her work and experience will greatly strengthen the connection between the Orchestra and the education sector,
