Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela announced an expenditure of €1 million in advanced equipment and technology, a new SPECT-CT Scanning service that was launched this week at the Radiology Department at Mater Dei Hospital.
A statement on Thursday said that this new service will complement the range of specialised services that the Radiology Department offers at Mater Dei Hospital.
Abela explained that this advanced technology helps specialists to locate conditions and diseases with greater precision, thus enabling a clear and detailed diagnosis that leads to specialised and timely treatment.
He said that this technology is planned to be used in various fields, including orthopaedics, endocrinology, pulmonology, cardiology, and in relation to cancer treatment.
"This investment further drives the government's vision for Mater Dei Hospital to continue focusing and developing its potential as a centre of excellence in secondary and tertiary healthcare," Abela said, thanking all employees from the administrative and technical sectors who prepared the project in a short time.
Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician Dr Andrew Mallia spoke of the importance of the innovative service and highlighted the benefits that patients will enjoy thanks to the advanced technology, which will lead to more precise results and specialised treatment.
