Keith Chetcuti is being appointed to the role of Chief Executive of Public Broadcasting Services, the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government announced on Wednesday.
The Ministry said that Chetcuti, who graduated from the University of Malta as an engineer, started his career in television and directed several popular programmes. It continued that he was involved in commercial productions and has worked in the private sector during the last 20 years.
Anna Bonett is also being appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of PBS. The Ministry said that Bonett has over 45 years of experience in broadcasting, communication, and hospitality.
It added that Bonett is known for the various roles she held within Xandir Malta and PBS. It said that she has experience presenting popular programmes and also has experience with private broadcasting stations along with having worked in the PBS archives. The Ministry added that she also spent some time with the Office of the High Commission of Malta in London.
Chetcuti and Bonett are set to begin working in their respective posts on 1 October 2024.
In addition to the aforementioned appointments, the Ministry said that Engelbert Grech was appointed as the Chairperson of the PBS Editorial Board following the retirement of Joseph Sammut. The Ministry said that Grech has over 30 years of experience in the broadcasting industry and is a communications graduate.
It said that Grech started producing programmes for PBS after several years of working in journalism with a private radio station and that he later also worked in the international market. It added that he was also the Film Commissioner for four years.
As a result of Grech's appointment, he resigned from the PBS Board of Directors, and Anna Bonanno will be appointed as a member of the board, the Ministry concluded.
